Giving a Custom Song Gift for My 20th Anniversary

Summer was flying by, and our 20th anniversary was rolling in fast. We had debated on traveling somewhere for our anniversary, but with our daughter’s jam-packed cheer schedule this summer, we just couldn’t make it out anywhere this summer.
I hemmed and hawed about what to do to celebrate our anniversary for a few months, and in the end, we decided to soak in some hot springs at a nearby place called WorldSprings that had just opened up last year. It was something we could do locally, travel the world via different springs, and we could celebrate for a few hours together while the kids were at school.

This time, we just wanted to spend some quality time with each other and our family and eat some sushi, which we did.
But, what made the day really special and personal was the custom song gift I gave my husband.
After the kids came home from school, I sat everyone down and I surprised my husband with a custom song gift!

I had no idea how this song would turn out with all the my random inputs I wrote, but I was amazed at how well it turned out and how moving it was for us to hear something so personalized!
My husband was holding back a few tears even though it may not look like it from the video. He confessed it to me later. His reaction in the video may seem small for some, but for someone who’s not the emotional type, this was a lot of emotion coming from him!
I listened to the songs first before giving it to him (you get 2 versions), and it really moved me too even though I was the gift giver!
There’s just something about having your own personal stories and memories sung through a song that resonates emotionally. I’m not sure how they strung all the lyrics together so that it made sense, but I honestly thought they did a great job and that it turned out great!
Even the next morning, my husband said that the song was so catchy that he found himself singing it in his head.

How I Discovered the Idea of Giving a Custom Song Gift
A few years ago, I discovered a company called VidDay that helps people create custom video gifts easily. At the time, I was struggling to figure out what to give my father-in-law for his 80th birthday, and this discovery saved us and really made the day super special. I had no idea that custom songs were even a thing. Who knew that a custom song gift was even possible, but after I discovered that it did exist, I wanted to try it!

How Does It Work?
The process to have a custom song created with VidDay is quite simple.
You just go to their website and fill out a short form, which looks like this:
Can you choose the genre or style for the custom song?
Yes, there are several song examples on their website with different genres. I just listened to a little bit of each one and then used their descriptions to pick several genres that I thought I would like.
Here are the samples provided on their website. You can go to their website to listen to the actual audio.
For example, I wrote:
“Pop, Pop Rock, Sentimental, Happy, Acoustic (Not Country)” as part of my song description.
I thought I’d be happy with any of these genres, but we’re not a fan of country music, so I specified that just in case.
I also added ” 20th Anniversary” to specify it was for our 20th anniversary.
Can you choose your own lyrics or words for the song?
Your exact lyrics may not make it into the song, but your description with all the inputs you want the song to contain or possibly contain is written into the description section.
I added a bit more than the example underneath the description to make sure that specific stories were added into the song… like how our bags were lost on our honeymoon in Italy.
I would recommend you be quite specific. I wrote Italy, and thankfully the lyrics said Rome, which is exactly where we were when our bags were lost, but if we had lost our bags in another city in Italy, the lyrics would not have been accurate. There’s a bit of inferring that does seem to happen, so be specific for the best result.
I included my children’s names, some things about their relationship with my husband, some things he likes, and even about our recent conversation about visiting National Parks together. That made it into the song and made him chuckle. 🙂
How much does it cost to have a song made?
The best part of this entire process of having a custom song made with VidDay is just how affordable it is!
It’s only $29.99 to have a custom song made.
And for that price, you actually get two versions, so you can choose which song you would like to use. I ended up liking both of mine, so I shared both songs as a gift. They were different in lyrics and melody and style, but somehow most of the descriptions I wrote made it into both songs.
How long does it take to produce a custom song?
It takes 1-4 days to produce a custom song through VidDay.
What format does the song get delivered in?
The song gets delivered to you in two different formats.
You will receive 2 songs as an .mp3 file, and also receive a version of each song in a video format that has a cover photo plus lyrics that show up as captions on the page while the song is playing. This is a video file and will be sent as an .mp4 file.
You receive 4 files in total–one MP3 file and one MP4 file for each song.
You can add a photo when you submit your custom song request. I added a recent photo of us at a sushi restaurant, since we love eating together with our family.

I chose to use the .mp4 files to play on my iPad so that my husband could read the lyrics as the song was playing, but if you want to play the song in a car ride or add it to a slideshow or video that you create, you can use the .mp3 version.
What occasions can you request a custom song for?
A custom song can be a great gift for any occasion. I used it for an anniversary present, but it would be really great as a birthday present, wedding gift, mother’s day or father’s day gift, graduation present, or any other instance when you’d like to have custom lyrics.
And honestly, who wouldn’t want custom lyrics created just for them?
If you’re old enough to remember… Remember the days when people would call into radio stations to have their loved one’s name mentioned on the radio to dedicate a song to them? I remember how special it was for the person who received that! Now, you can have an entire song dedicated to them!
My Final Thoughts
Overall, I was very pleased with how easy it was to use VidDay’s custom song creation service, how well it customized the lyrics and melody just for us, and also just how affordable it is. It’s definitely a song we will remember forever… and what a special way to celebrate our 20th anniversary!
The hardest part is just thinking of what you want to include in the song. I probably spent about an hour just thinking of what to write in that little description box. Once that’s done, you just make a payment, and you’re all set. You’ll receive the song via email when it’s ready.
